Features and Where to use
This shrub is well known for it's fuzzy silver catkins that open tight to the branch before leaves appear in the spring. Great for cut stems in Easter decorations or Spring planters. The rest of the year, the shrubby plant demands little attention, but is great for naturalized hedging or forest gardening. Native to Ontario.
Growth Details
Cold Hardiness - Zone 4
Sizing - 5-6 meters tall, 2-3 meters wide. Prune in late winter before new growth appears to encourage larger catkins that are easier to reach and view.
Location - Full sun preferred. Moist to average soil, prefers well drained area.
